Punjab Police, under CM Bhagwant Mann’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, arrest 91 drug smugglers in 276 raids as anti-drug campaign enters 250th day

As part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to end the drug problem in the state for the 250th day in a row, Punjab Police raided 276 locations on Thursday, arresting 91 drug smugglers after filing 65 first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state. This means that in 250 days, 35,519 drug smugglers have been apprehended overall.

2.4 kg of heroin, 6 kg of poppies, 9853 intoxicating tablets, and Rs 1700 in drug money were found in the possession of drug smugglers who were arrested as a result of the operations.

The Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police have been urged by CM Mann to declare Punjab a drug-free state. To oversee the fight against narcotics, the Punjabi government has also established a five-member Cabinet Subcommittee, which is chaired by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

276 raids have been carried out around the state by more than 100 police teams, which consist of more than 800 police officers, overseen by 51 gazetted officers. Up to 315 suspected individuals have also been inspected by police teams throughout the course of the daylong investigation.

To eradicate drugs from the state, the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy: Enforcement, Drug Abuse, and Prevention (EDP). Today, the Punjab Police, as part of “De-addiction,” persuaded nine people to receive rehabilitation and de-addiction treatment.
