Punjab Government Distributes Jobs to Families of Farmers Who Died During Farm Law Protests

Chandigarh, September 20, 2024: In a significant initiative, Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, distributed appointment letters to 30 individuals from the families of farmers who tragically lost their lives during the protests against the farm laws. This move, spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government, is aimed at providing support to the bereaved families.

Of the 30 individuals, 25 have been appointed as clerks, while five will serve as Sewadars in the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department. The appointments mark an important step in ensuring economic stability for the families who suffered during the protests, while also helping the state’s government services.

In addition to these appointments, eight more youths received job placements in various other departments. This includes two Veterinary Inspectors and four clerks in the Animal Husbandry Department, with three of the clerks being appointed on compassionate grounds. Moreover, two stenographers were given appointment letters to serve in the Dairy Development Department.

While addressing the newly recruited officials, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian congratulated them and encouraged them to dedicate themselves to the betterment of Punjab. He emphasized the importance of delivering transparent and efficient services to the people of the state and urged them to work with sincerity in their new roles.

Minister Khudian also took the opportunity to highlight the Mann-led government’s achievements in job creation. He stated that the Punjab government has provided 44,974 government jobs across various departments so far. Stressing the integrity of the recruitment process, Khudian underscored that the selections have been made strictly on the basis of merit, with a focus on transparency and fairness.

He added that this recruitment drive reflects the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the farm protests while ensuring that new employees contribute to the development of Punjab.

Prominent officials, including Director of Agriculture Jaswant Singh, Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. Gursharanjit Singh Bedi, and Director of Dairy Development Kuldeep Singh, were present during the ceremony, further emphasizing the importance of the event.

This initiative represents a broader effort by the state government to support families that have been directly affected by political and social turmoil, especially those who were involved in the long-standing protests against the farm laws. The provision of employment opportunities is not only a gesture of goodwill but also a practical solution to help those families regain stability.

The government’s focus on merit-based recruitment is expected to boost the efficiency of public services and enhance transparency in governance. As the newly appointed individuals take on their roles in various departments, they are expected to contribute significantly to the delivery of essential services, thus supporting the state’s growth and progress.

This initiative by the Punjab government is being seen as a crucial step in acknowledging the sacrifices of the farmers while also ensuring that their families are provided with financial stability through government employment. As these new recruits begin their work, they carry with them the hopes of a state eager for progress and development.
