Punjab Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur slams Congress President Raja Warring over disrespectful remarks on late Dalit leader Buta Singh, urging accountability.

Dr. Baljit Kaur, a member of the Punjab Cabinet, delivered a strong statement criticizing the recent comments made by Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring regarding Sardar Buta Singh, a former Union Home Minister and member of the Congress Party who has since died.

Dr. Baljit Kaur, who is in charge of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, was quite upset about what happened. She remarked, “Mr. Buta Singh was not only a giant in Indian politics, but also a source of pride and strength for the Scheduled Castes community.” To talk about him in such bad ways is an insult to his legacy and a betrayal of the principles he stood for during his life.

She further said, “I strongly reject the rude and hurtful things Mr. Raja Warring said. When you use rhetoric like this, especially when it’s aimed at a respected Dalit leader, it shows a distressing lack of respect and humanity. It is not appropriate in any kind of decent conversation, and it is even worse in politics.

Dr. Kaur asked all political leaders to respect the dignity of public service and be careful what they say. We need to remember that what we say matters. She went on to say, “Irresponsible speech cannot lessen Mr. Buta Singh’s contributions.”

The Minister also praised the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission for taking suo motu action, which included sending a notice to Mr. Warring and asking the Tarn Taran Returning Officer for a report. “Such events must lead to accountability. Dr. Baljit Kaur said, “I urge the Commission to take this matter seriously to make sure that justice is done—not just for Mr. Buta Singh’s memory, but also for the dignity of every citizen who values respect and equality.”

Dr. Baljit Kaur ended her speech by saying that the political culture in Punjab must reflect the ideals of fairness, equality, and respect for others.
