Mohalla clinics closure impacts thousands in Delhi; AAP highlights risk to public health and criticizes BJP’s handling of the crisis.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the Delhi government’s decision to close 170 mohalla clinics in the Capital.

Kejriwal had said during the polls that these units would be closed if the BJP won. Saurabh Bharadwaj, head of the Delhi AAP, said, “On average, each clinic sees between 100 and 200 patients a day. That means that about 20,000 patients will now be affected every day.”

Virendra Sachdeva, head of the Delhi BJP, said that the AAP government was “scamming” people by pretending to run Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics.

Last week, HT reported that the Delhi health department’s state program officer for Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) had told mohalla clinics that they would be closing.

Sachdeva from the BJP alleged that these centers, which were set up in roadside porta cabins or rented rooms at very high rates from AAP volunteers, merely worked as half-day OPD centers, which the Kejriwal government utilized to steal money.

“Most of these clinics didn’t even have doctors; they were run by compounders and didn’t have any way to diagnose patients.” He said, “They became centers of fraud—registering fake patients using the same phone number and stealing money in the name of fake diagnostic tests.”

Sachdeva also added that Rekha Gupta’s BJP government is currently setting up Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in government buildings. These temples would have all the basic medical testing equipment, doctors, and paramedical staff they need.

He remarked, “The Delhi government has already opened a number of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The goal is to open 1,100 Arogya Mandirs by April 2026.”
