Punjab Police conduct 340 raids, arrest 76 drug smugglers, seize 2.3 kg heroin & ₹1.51 lakh cash in Chief Minister Mann’s anti-drug campaign.
Following the filing of 68 first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state, Punjab Police conducted raids at 340 locations on Thursday, resulting in the arrest of 76 drug smugglers as part of the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign against drugs, which Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has been waging for the 243rd day in a row to eradicate the drug menace from the state. This brings the total number of drug smugglers caught in 243 days to 34,599.
2.3 kilos of heroin and Rs 1.51 lakhs in drug money were found in the custody of drug smugglers who were arrested as a result of the operations.
340 raids have been carried out around the state by more than 120 police teams, which consist of more than 1000 police officers, overseen by 67 gazetted officers. During the course of the daylong operation, police teams have also examined up to 368 questionable individuals.
To eradicate drugs from the state, the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy: Enforcement, Drug Abuse, and Prevention (EDP). As part of “De-addiction,” the Punjab Police have persuaded 35 individuals to receive rehabilitation and de-addiction treatment.
