AAP govt in Punjab accelerates Swachh Bharat Mission Phase-2 in Tarn Taran, creating ODF Plus villages and improving sanitation with ₹28.38 crore funding.
The AAP govt, headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is totally dedicated to the comprehensive development of Punjab’s border areas, according to a statement released by Harmeet Singh Sandhu, the party’s candidate. The AAP government is transforming the villages via work being done on the ground, he claimed, pointing the finger at the past administrations that fed the people of Tarn Taran nothing but hollow promises for decades. Sandhu highlighted government accomplishments by presenting data on the Swachh Bharat Mission’s activities.
According to Sandhu, past governments did not make any real attempts to advance this progress, even though Tarn Taran area was the first border district to be designated Open Defecation Free (ODF) in 2018. With the help of Gram Panchayats, he said, some 36,000 families in the district’s villages received toilet facilities as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission’s (Gramin) initial phase. But the AAP administration has now launched the actual cleanliness campaign in the countryside.

Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-2, Sandhu stated that work is being done on a war footing to make villages ODF Plus (Model Category) villages because the AAP government’s intention is clear. In order to ensure that there is never a shortage of funds for development projects, he cited statistics showing that the government has already directly transferred a substantial sum of 2,838.57 lakh to the bank accounts of 572 Gram Panchayats and Gram Panchayat Water Supply and Sanitation Committees for the construction of Thapar Model, Seechewal Model, individual, and community soak pits under liquid waste management.
According to the AAP candidate, these are concrete acts taking place on the ground rather than merely announcements. He said that so far, 361 initiatives related to liquid waste management had received approval. 118 villages have already seen the completion of liquid waste management projects as a result of the AAP government’s quick action, and 70 more projects are currently under way and will shortly be finished. These results, according to Sandhu, demonstrate the AAP government’s commitment to giving the residents of Tarn Taran a clean and healthy environment, and he indicated that similar developmental projects will continue at the same rate in the future.
