Netflix closes Boss Fight Entertainment, developer of Squid Game: Unleashed, as it shifts to story-driven, easy-to-play mobile games.
The company that created the mobile game Squid Game: Unleashed for Netflix has closed. In 2022, Netflix acquired the studio, Boss Fight Entertainment, to produce additional games for the streaming service. David Rippy, a co-founder of the studio, confirmed the news in a LinkedIn post, according to a Reuters story. Although he acknowledged that it was “rough news,” he appreciated Netflix for their time.
Netflix Stories and Squid Game: Unleashed will remain playable on the app even after the shutdown.
Netflix Is Developing A New Approach To Gaming
Netflix is transforming its game production process. The company now wants to concentrate on making games that are easy to play and tell stories so that more people may enjoy them.
These will include entertaining games for parties, activities for children, and games inspired by well-known Netflix series.
Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, stated that Squid Game: Unleashed is an excellent illustration of the type of games that Netflix hopes to produce in the future.
To spearhead this new strategy, Netflix appointed Alain Tascan as its new president of gaming last year, according to Reuters.
Creating games that are more related to what users now watch on Netflix is the aim.

In this manner, Netflix expands its audience while fans can savor their favorite stories in fresh, engaging ways.
The Journey of Boss Fight Entertainment Comes to an End
Before joining Netflix in 2022, Boss Fight Entertainment had been in business for over a decade. It worked on two popular games during that time: Squid Game: Unleashed and Netflix Stories.
After “10+ great years,” the company’s director, David Luehmann, also posted on LinkedIn that it was time for the studio to close.
The shutdown is a component of Netflix’s strategy to concentrate primarily on areas that align with its overarching objectives. To expand its user base, the company is experimenting with new features like mobile games, cloud streaming, and ad-supported plans.
Although Boss Fight’s voyage is over, Netflix is anticipated to keep producing innovative, new games in the years to come.
