UP Govt Hikes DA and DR by 3% for Employees and Pensioners as Diwali Gift

UP Govt announces 3% hike in DA and DR, raising it from 55% to 58% effective July 1, 2025. The move benefits 28 lakh employees and pensioners in Uttar Pradesh.

UP Govt , Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sent his best wishes to state government workers, retirees, and their families. This was after the UP government announced a 3% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) as a Diwali present. He said on X (previously Twitter) that the decision would assist improve the quality of life for 28 lakh committed workers and pensioners.

The UP government’s Diwali gift

He wrote on X (previously Twitter), “The Government of Uttar Pradesh has raised the rate of dearness allowance and dearness relief for state employees and pensioners/family pensioners from 55% to 58% starting on July 1, 2025.”

He went on to say, “On the occasion of the festival of Deepavali, this decision will help improve the quality of life for about 28 lakh dedicated workers and pensioners by lighting the lamp of happiness, safety, and prosperity in their lives.” Everyone, congratulations!

Officials indicated that the new DA, which is now 58 percent of basic pay instead of 55 percent, will start on July 1, 2025, and the back pay will be reimbursed in cash starting in October 2025. The change will help about 16.35 lakh workers and 11.52 lakh pensioners in the state.

The officials added that the decision will cost the state an extra Rs 1,960 crore until March 2026. In November 2025, Rs 795 crore will be given out in cash, and Rs 185 crore will be put into the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of employees who are part of the Old Pension Scheme.

Also, paying off debts from July to September 2025 will cost another Rs 550 crore. Starting in December 2025, the state government will have to pay an extra Rs 245 crore a month because of the rise in DA.
