Team India departed for their tour of Australia on Wednesday, set to begin with a three-match ODI series starting October 19 (Sunday).

ICC published a video on X (previously Twitter) of Shubman Gill, the new ODI captain, hugging Rohit Sharma and saying hello to Virat Kohli as Team India left for their tour of Australia. The tour starts on October 19 (Sunday) with a three-match ODI series.

Gill’s comments about Kohli and Rohit

Shubman Gill, the new captain of Team India in ODIs, recently talked about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma before the next ODI series against Australia.

The two senior players, who last played for India in the Champions Trophy final in March, will be back for the first game in Perth on October 19.

Rohit made news recently when Gill took over as the ODI captain and Shreyas Iyer became the vice-captain.

Before the series, Shubman Gill said he looked up to the two veterans and that their knowledge and ability to win games are still very important for the squad. “They’ve won a lot of games for India. Gill said, “All we want from them is to play freely and work their magic again.”

Virat and Rohit last played competitive cricket in the IPL 2025 season, therefore this series represents their long-awaited return to the national team.

“Expectations, I mean, they are someone who has won a lot of games for us in the past and has been playing for 10 to 15 years. They have won games because of the experience they bring to the table. Every captain and every team wants it. That’s what we want to see them do. We simply want them to go out there and do their thing. Gill remarked on JioHotstar, “Do their magic.”

The first ODI between India and Australia will be on Sunday, October 19.
