Following Zubeen Garg ‘s unexplained death on September 19 while on a yacht excursion, CID in Singapore has detained Sandipan Garg, an Assam police officer and the singer’s cousin.
Sandipan Garg, a member of the Assam Police Service (APS) and the late singer Zubeen Garg ‘s cousin, has been arrested in a significant step in the investigation into her death in Singapore. Sandipan was allegedly with the singer when the unfortunate event occurred, according to the authorities.
The cousin of Zubeen Garg was detained.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) performed several rounds of questioning prior to the arrest. As part of the investigation, Sandipan and a number of Zubeen’s close acquaintances and colleagues had previously been questioned by investigators.
“Sandipan Garg has been taken into custody. The required legal procedures are now been completed,” CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI.
The singer’s cousin and a deputy SP, the policeman was allegedly with Zubeen Garg when the singer allegedly drowned in Singapore.
Later today, Sandipan Garg is expected to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court.
He has been brought to this court by our squad. A senior official also stated, “We will request police remand.”
Authorities had previously arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the North East India Festival, Siddharth Sharma, the singer’s manager, and two members of his band, Amrit Prabha Mahanta and Shekhar Jyoti Goswami.
The four other people who were previously detained in relation to the inquiry are still being held by the police.
Clarity is sought by Zubeen Garg’s sister and wife.
In an effort to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in Singapore last month, Zubeen Garg’s sister Palme Borthakur and his wife Garima Saikia Garg spoke out on Tuesday. They demanded justice for the deceased artist as well.
“We will be together once more very soon, Goldie,” as the family called Garg. However, I/we all want to know why you physically left us, and that will happen very soon. Why? This is a significant query. My empty heart is burning day and night over this question. On her Facebook page, Garima wrote, “I want an answer.
“You will again call me ‘Momon’ (her pet name) when we meet on the other side,” Garg’s sister wrote in a social media post. Right now, our primary objective is to make sure you get justice. She urged everyone to provide emotional support and help the family pursue justice for Zubeen.
The investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg
On September 19, 52-year-old Zubeen Garg, who was well-liked in the Assamese and Bollywood music communities, passed away in Singapore while swimming close to an island. Before the accident, the singer had gone on a yacht cruise while in the country to perform at the North East India Festival.
Following the filing of more than 60 FIRs against Mahanta, Sharma, and a number of other individuals throughout the state, the chief minister instructed the DGP to forward all of the cases to the CID and file a single case for a comprehensive investigation.
To look into the singer’s death, the CID formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was headed by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta.
