In the Asia Cup event, India and Pakistan squared off three times, with India winning each time.
Every time India and Pakistan faced each other on the field during the just finished Asia Cup 2025, there were intense disagreements.
The tournament included a number of firsts, including the September 14 no-handshake incident and PCB president Mohsin Naqvi accepting the trophy following the championship match. In light of these tensions, it was unclear if the two countries would play one another in future competitions.
The BCCI Addresses Speculation
The ICC should postpone scheduling India-Pakistan matches until ties between the two countries improve, according to former England captain Michael Atherton. Upon being questioned about this, a BCCI official explained that although such concepts seem straightforward, business obligations make it practically impossible to call off these well-known matches.
“Talking about all of this is easy, but will sponsors and broadcasters agree to it?” a BCCI official told Dainik Jagran. In the current scenario, it will be challenging to draw sponsors if any significant team—not only India—withdraws from a competition.
In the Asia Cup event, India and Pakistan squared off three times, with India winning each time. These matches were especially noteworthy because they were the first time the two teams had faced each other on the cricket field after Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror incident.
Controversies Affect the 2025 Asia Cup
The breach was widened by the Asia Cup’s numerous flashpoints, including players fighting on the field, India refusing to shake hands, and PCB’s handling of the post-final ceremony. The BCCI’s position implies that India-Pakistan cricket relations are unlikely to terminate very soon, notwithstanding the strain.
India did not receive the Asia Cup trophy.
After India’s victory in the final, Mohsin Naqvi’s stunning conduct of taking away the Asia Cup 2025 trophy drew criticism from India supporters.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final match at the Dubai International Stadium on September 28, sparking the controversy. Following the match, there was a heated dispute that caused the presentation ceremony to be postponed for about an hour when Suryakumar Yadav and his team refused to take the trophy from Naqvi.
The ceremony was abruptly canceled because tensions persisted despite multiple attempts to address the matter.
The major prize was not given out, however Indian players Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up their individual honors. After then, it was stated that Naqvi took the trophy, which is currently at the ACC headquarters, and left the venue.
