Gorakhpur Cantt Station will soon get a second entry point, similar to Gorakhpur Junction, with work sped up following orders from NER GM Uday Borwankar.

Plans for a new overbridge and a second entrance are being expedited at Gorakhpur Cantt railway station in order to increase accessibility for lakhs of passengers and ease traffic congestion. These projects have accelerated construction under the leadership of Uday Borwankar, General Manager of North Eastern Railway.

Project for the Second Entrance

A fresh plan, a thorough proposal, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a second station entry on the south side have all been finalized by the railway administration. Soon, the tendering procedure should start.

objective : The goal is to give passengers a direct, unhindered path to the station so they won’t have to wait at the crowded crossing of the railroad.

Location and Access: The new entry will open a direct route from the AIIMS gate to Army Public School, occupying 7,790 square meters of army land.

Benefit: This will make the trip to and from the station considerably more convenient and stop travelers from missing their trains because of traffic congestion.

Responding To An Increasing Need

Approximately 200 train movements per day are handled by a railway crossing (157A), which impedes the station’s current main entrance on the north side. This crossing is frequently closed, which causes ongoing traffic jams and deters many people from utilizing the station.

At a cost of Rs 20 crore, Gorakhpur Cantt is being transformed into a major satellite terminal, hence the renovation is essential. There are now two passenger trains running through the station, and a third is in the works. Along the Narkatiaganj, Chhapra, and Varanasi routes, it will eventually also act as a hub for local trains.

The construction of a new overbridge

A railway overbridge will be built at the Gorakhpur Cantt crossing (157A) in addition to the second entrance to permanently alleviate the traffic jam.

Cost of Project: 69 crore rupees

It is roughly 674 meters long and 17 meters broad.

Present Situation: The railway management has issued a call for bids for the building project.

The overbridge would greatly assist the people of more than a dozen communities, including Nandanagar, Jharna Tola, Lalganj, Gayatrinagar, Unchwa, and Dargahia, by facilitating smooth passage for both rail passengers and the general public.

A formal statement

North Eastern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Pankaj Kumar Singh confirmed the developments, saying, “A blueprint for the second entrance of Gorakhpur Cantt station has been produced. The approval process for a revised detailed proposal is now under progress. When this project is finished, Gorakhpur Cantt station’s passenger flow will be facilitated, and amenities will be improved.
