Rani Mukerji wins her first National Award for Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, calling it a blessing and dedicating it to her late father.
Rani Mukerji, an actress, received her first National Award for her role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway. Along with Vikrant Massey, who won the National Award in the “Best Actor” category, and Shah Rukh Khan, Rani traveled to the capital. Rani Mukerji spoke candidly about her National Award achievement, describing it as “truly surreal”. “I was doing a Griha Pravesh puja for my new office, which is located in the location where my dad used to live,” she added, adding that hearing about getting the prize was “really surreal.” All day long, my thoughts were focused on my father. After completing the pooja, I was called regarding the National Award as soon as I sat down.
Rani described it as a blessing from her late father, saying, “I genuinely felt that it was my dad’s blessing that it happened in such a way that his presence felt really strong.” The fact that I was performing the Puja in the exact room where he had died made me miss him terribly that day.
Winning Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway is, of course, even more memorable since, as I’ve stated in previous interviews, I based Devika’s character on my own mother. I had my mother in mind during the photo session. As a result, Devika, the role I played, was something similar to her. I feel as though this National Award is a blessing from both of my parents. It’s quite weird and very personal in that regard,” she continued.
Rani said that her supporters were the reason behind her National Award victory, stating that it was a unique honor approved by the government that meant a lot to her fans in particular. She highlighted the happiness it brought to those who tirelessly supported her, saying that viewing the pride and joy in her mother’s eyes and the elation of her admirers made the victory feel more for them than for her.
She went on to say, “This award is also a tribute to all mothers worldwide—their courage, strength, and unwavering love.” The story of Mrs. Chatterjee v. Norway struck a deep chord with me because it embodies the unwavering spirit of an immigrant mother who fights against all odds in a strange country to safeguard her kid. This role was quite personal for me as a mother. We aimed to celebrate the essence of motherhood with this movie, and I hope it reminds people of the silent strength that women possess every day.
