Gorakhpur Airport Advisory Committee approves 24-hour flights, new city connections, Guru Gorakhnath statue, ILS upgrade, and passenger facility improvements.
The Airport Advisory Committee met Monday and made a number of important decisions, including plans to rename the airport after Guru Gorakhnath, begin flights to new places, and make Gorakhpur Airport open around-the-clock. The committee also gave its approval for a statue of Guru Gorakhnath to be placed on the property.
According to MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, who presided over the meeting, the objective is to allow flights to operate around the clock, if the Indian Air Force grants permission and the required resources are mobilized. In order to improve connectivity between the Purvanchal region and important Indian cities, he recommended starting direct flights from Gorakhpur to Jammu, Pune, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Goa.
The Instrument Landing System (ILS) upgrade to Category-II, which permits aircraft operations in poor visibility and bad weather, was also covered during the conference. The timely completion of apron expansion work and the improvement of passenger facilities were also emphasized.
A passenger shed and drinking water facilities were to be installed on the highway, a Gita Press store was to be opened at the airport, the main gate was to be beautified, the airport name was to be displayed on a large LED screen, and committee members were to be given vehicle entry passes.
In addition to representatives from Akasa, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Alliance Air, the committee members in attendance included Manish Singh, Alok Agarwal, Shantanu Sarraf, Additional District Magistrate (City), Airport Director RK Parashar, Assistant GM (Communications) Vijay Kaushal, and Airport Security Officer Vinod Kumar Singh.
