Punjab Announces Big Relief on Verka Dairy Products
In a significant consumer-friendly step, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a major reduction in the prices of Verka milk and dairy products. The move, aimed at providing relief to the common man, will come into effect from September 22, 2025.
Verka, operated by Milkfed, Punjab’s state-supported farmers’ cooperative, is one of the most trusted dairy brands in the state. The Chief Minister said that the revision was timed with the rollout of the GST 2.0 reforms, which reduced tariffs on essential food items, including dairy products.
Mann emphasized that this decision would not only reduce the household burden of inflation-hit families but also strengthen the cooperative model and support dairy farmers.
Detailed Price Reductions Across Verka Range
The government confirmed that the price cuts will cover several of Verka’s most popular products:
- Ghee: Cheaper by ₹30–35 per litre/kg
- Table Butter: Reduced by ₹30 per kg
- Unsalted Butter: Reduced by ₹35 per kg
- Processed Cheese: Reduced by ₹20 per kg
- UHT Milk (Standard, Toned & Double Toned): Reduced by ₹2 per litre
- Paneer: Reduced by ₹15 per kg
- Ice Cream (gallons, bricks & tubs): Reduced by ₹10 per litre
Mann said these reductions will directly benefit consumers, encourage more households to shift toward organized dairy products, and boost sales volumes across Punjab.
Benefits for Consumers and State Economy
According to the Chief Minister, the new pricing model is expected to increase affordability for families while stimulating consumer demand. Rising demand, he added, will eventually lead to higher tax collections for the state.
“This step provides much-needed relief for consumers impacted by inflation. At the same time, it strengthens Punjab’s fiscal position by boosting demand for cooperative dairy products,” Mann said.
Officials believe that the price cuts will make Verka products more competitive in the market, drawing in customers who may otherwise opt for private labels or unorganized dairy supplies.
Consumer Welfare and Farmer Prosperity
The initiative is designed to balance consumer welfare with farmer prosperity. By lowering retail prices while ensuring fair returns to dairy farmers through Milkfed’s cooperative model, the Punjab government hopes to safeguard both ends of the value chain.
Mann reiterated that the government remains committed to quality standards and compliance, ensuring that consumers receive safe and affordable dairy products. He also stressed that such measures create a cycle of benefits, from stronger demand and healthier fiscal collections to sustainable growth in Punjab’s dairy sector.
