UP Government Launches State-Wide College Probe
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a sweeping probe into universities and colleges across the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to conduct strict checks to ensure compliance with admission procedures and course recognition rules.
According to state authorities, a special investigation team (SIT) will be set up in each district to carry out inspections. These teams will include senior administrative officials, police representatives, and officers from the education department. The move is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability across higher education institutions.
Officials confirmed that the probe will focus on institutions suspected of running unrecognised courses and violating admission norms. The state’s message is clear: any deviation from approved guidelines will not be tolerated.
Checks on Admissions and Courses
As part of the drive, colleges and universities will be required to submit affidavits declaring that only recognised courses are being conducted. Authorities will then cross-verify these claims by reviewing official course lists and approval letters issued by relevant bodies.
Institutions found guilty of running unrecognised programmes will face immediate action. In addition, students affected by such violations will be entitled to a full refund of fees with interest. Responsibility for refunds will rest entirely on the management of the institutions.
This step, officials said, aims to protect students from academic fraud and safeguard their future. Many students, unaware of recognition requirements, often fall victim to unapproved courses, only to find their degrees invalid later.
Strict Action Against Violations
The Adityanath-led government has underlined that punitive measures will be taken against colleges found guilty of non-compliance. Running unapproved programmes not only misleads students but also undermines the credibility of the state’s education system.
Divisional commissioners will oversee the inspection process directly. Each district has been instructed to submit a consolidated inspection report within 15 days. These reports will give the government a detailed picture of the state of higher education and help identify problem areas.
Officials warned that institutions attempting to mislead authorities will face both legal and administrative consequences.
