Punjab Showcases Historic Welfare Initiatives

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday highlighted the historic reforms undertaken by his government in health, education, power, and infrastructure. Speaking to media persons in Chennai, he said these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to improving the quality of life and ensuring long-term prosperity for its people.

The Chief Minister stated that the Punjab government has consistently prioritized core sectors that impact daily life. “For decades, politics was dominated by divisive issues. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has brought health and education into the national spotlight,” Mann said. He added that these areas, once neglected in public debate, are now recognized as central to good governance.

Mann praised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for launching people-centric reforms and said Punjab was keen to learn from such effective models. He stressed that mutual cooperation between states would help strengthen India’s federal structure and deliver better governance outcomes.

CM Attends Breakfast Scheme Launch in Chennai

Bhagwant Mann was in Chennai as the Chief Guest at the expansion of Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme, which now covers urban areas in addition to rural schools. Expressing pride and gratitude for the invitation, he said Punjab is open to replicating successful schemes that deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

The Punjab Chief Minister lauded the breakfast initiative, calling it a “historic step” to fight malnutrition, improve attendance, and enhance learning outcomes among students. He emphasized that welfare measures like this create real social impact, particularly for marginalized families.

Mann added that Punjab too has focused on improving education quality through Schools of Eminence, overseas training for teachers, and special transport facilities for girls. “Education and health form the backbone of our governance model. These are not promises but measurable achievements,” he said.

Strengthening Tamil Nadu–Punjab Ties

During his interaction, Mann also highlighted the shared cultural legacy of Punjab and Tamil Nadu. He described India’s diversity as its greatest strength, likening it to a bouquet of flowers that gains beauty from variety.

“Unity in diversity is not just a phrase but the very essence of our country. States like Punjab and Tamil Nadu, with their rich traditions, showcase the strength of federal India,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that his visit would deepen the bond between the two states and open new avenues of cooperation in governance, trade, and cultural exchange. “I believe this occasion will mark the beginning of a stronger partnership that benefits people in both states,” he said.

Focus on Inclusive Growth

Mann outlined his government’s achievements in other sectors, including:

  • Healthcare: Free treatment up to ₹10 lakh under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, with hundreds of Aam Aadmi Clinics operational across Punjab.
  • Power sector: Steps taken to ensure reliable supply and reduce financial burden on consumers.
  • Infrastructure: Investments in schools, hospitals, and rural facilities to reduce inequalities.

He reiterated that Punjab’s governance model is rooted in inclusive development, where benefits reach every household without discrimination. “We want to build a Punjab that is prosperous, progressive, and fair to all,” Mann added.
