Disturbing Discovery at Rajindra Hospital
Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh has ordered a high-level inquiry after a shocking incident at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. On Tuesday evening, around 5:30 pm, a dog was reportedly seen carrying the severed head of an infant near ward number 4 of the government-run hospital.
The disturbing sight immediately raised alarm among hospital staff and patients. Authorities were informed without delay. The Health Minister directed officials to investigate the matter from every angle. He also confirmed that the recovered head was handed over to the forensic team for scientific examination.
“This is a serious matter. The state government will ensure that the investigation is conducted thoroughly and all facts are brought to light,” Dr Balbir Singh said.
Hospital Clarifies No Infant Missing
Amid public concern, Rajindra Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Vishal Chopra, issued a detailed statement. He confirmed that no newborn is missing from the hospital wards.
Dr Chopra explained that all recent deliveries were accounted for and that the infants are present with their mothers. He also pointed out that three child deaths had been reported in the hospital in recent days. However, in each case, the bodies were handed over to families after proper documentation and signatures.
“There is no discrepancy in our records. Every child death has been documented, and bodies were released to relatives in accordance with hospital procedures,” Dr Chopra clarified.
Possible External Link to Incident
While the case has triggered panic, hospital authorities believe the remains might not have originated from within the premises.
“Prima facie, it appears that someone may have dumped the remains of an infant from outside,” Dr Chopra stated in his preliminary report.
This angle is now being explored by the police, who have launched a full-scale investigation. Officials confirmed that forensic experts will help determine the time and origin of the recovered remains.
Police and Forensic Teams Investigate
The Patiala police have already sealed the area around the hospital ward and are working closely with forensic specialists. The recovered remains will undergo postmortem and DNA testing to establish crucial details.
According to officials, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from hospital premises and nearby areas. Authorities are also verifying recent cases of missing children from Patiala and adjoining districts.
The incident has sparked concern over security in and around government hospitals. Several patient attendants demanded tighter surveillance to prevent such shocking occurrences.
Government Promises Transparency
The Punjab Health Department has assured strict action once the facts are established. Dr Balbir Singh reiterated that the case will not be taken lightly.
“We are treating this with utmost seriousness. The forensic report will be key to uncovering the truth, and police are working round the clock,” the Health Minister said.
Officials added that the inquiry report will be shared with the public to maintain transparency. The state government has urged people not to spread rumors until the forensic team completes its findings.
For now, the mystery of how an infant’s head ended up near a hospital ward remains unresolved. The probe is expected to determine whether it is linked to any crime outside the hospital or a mishandling of remains.
