The Punjab Government has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring freedom fighters and their families by enhancing their monthly pension. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the pension amount has been increased from Rs 9,400 to Rs 11,000 per month.
Pension Hike to Support Families
Punjab Freedom Fighters Minister Mohinder Bhagat announced that the increase is a significant step to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the heroes of India’s independence movement. He stressed that the state stands firmly with the freedom fighters and their dependents.
Bhagat noted that the revised pension not only provides financial support but also reflects greater dignity and respect for these families. He described serving freedom fighters as the foremost duty of the state government, in line with Chief Minister Mann’s vision.
“Their unmatched courage secured our nation’s independence. We owe them not just respect but continuous support,” Bhagat stated.
Recognising Punjab’s Role in the Independence Struggle
The Minister highlighted that Punjabis made an unparalleled contribution to India’s freedom struggle. Their sacrifices, he said, remain a source of inspiration for generations.
He further added that the government will continue to take initiatives to preserve the legacy of these heroes. Bhagat also emphasised that remembering their struggle instils patriotism and strengthens the values of democracy.
Officials pointed out that the enhanced pension aims to provide relief to families while also ensuring their social security. Several freedom fighters and their dependents have already begun receiving the revised amount.
A Commitment Beyond Financial Aid
The Mann Government has been taking multiple measures to support freedom fighters beyond financial assistance. Regular interaction with families and recognition at public events are part of its ongoing initiatives.
According to Bhagat, ensuring the welfare of freedom fighters is not just an administrative responsibility but also a moral one. The minister reiterated that Punjab would always remain grateful for the sacrifices made by its sons and daughters during the independence movement.
Legacy of Sacrifice
Punjab’s role in the freedom struggle is often regarded as unmatched. From historic movements to revolutionary actions, the state produced countless leaders who shaped India’s independence journey.
The government’s initiative to enhance pensions, officials say, is a small but meaningful gesture in recognising their enduring legacy. Bhagat concluded that every generation must remember the supreme sacrifices made and uphold the ideals of justice, freedom, and equality.
