Chandigarh : In a major step towards strengthening the higher education sector, the Punjab Higher Education Department has promoted 27 associate professors and professors to the position of college principals. The announcement was made by Punjab Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who highlighted that the move will uplift academic leadership across state-run colleges.
With these promotions, the department has successfully filled all available seats under the promotional quota. The development comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Punjab government to improve educational standards and address administrative gaps in higher education institutions.

Minister Bains highlights reforms in higher education
While making the announcement, Bains stressed the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education in the state. He confirmed that direct quota vacancies for principals will also be filled soon to ensure no leadership post remains vacant in Punjab’s colleges.
“By filling promotional quota posts, we are ensuring experienced faculty members take charge as principals. This will help improve governance and academic quality in colleges,” the minister said.
According to officials, the promotions are expected to create a positive impact on teaching quality, research output, and student welfare. Senior professors taking up leadership roles will also help in strengthening coordination between academic staff and the administration.
