MUMBAI : Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, found themselves at the centre of controversy this weekend after fresh reports claimed that the couple was headed for a divorce. The two, who have been married for 38 years, were alleged to be battling a legal separation based on documents reportedly filed in a Mumbai family court.
However, the actor’s lawyer and close friends have strongly denied these claims, calling the reports misleading and based on old matters. The family, meanwhile, has confirmed that the couple will be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi together, putting speculations to rest.

Speculation grew after entertainment portal Hauterrfly reportedly accessed documents suggesting that Sunita filed for divorce in the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024. According to those claims, she cited adultery, cruelty, and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
The reports further alleged that Govinda was summoned by the court and only responded after a notice to show cause in May 2025. Since June 2025, the couple has reportedly been attending court-mandated counselling sessions. While Sunita was seen appearing in person, it remains unclear if Govinda has participated virtually.
