Mission Rozgar Sets New Benchmark
CHANDIGHAR : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that his government has provided more than 55,000 jobs to young people in the state within the first three years of its tenure. The announcement came during a ceremony in Chandigarh, where 271 newly recruited candidates received appointment letters.
Launching his statement under Mission Rozgar, Sh. Bhagwant Mann highlighted that his administration had prioritized youth employment from day one. He said earlier governments offered jobs only at the end of their terms, while his government focused on creating opportunities right from the start.
“More than 55,000 youths have secured government jobs purely on merit through transparent exams and selection processes,” he noted. According to him, this marks a historical moment for Punjab, where employment is being tied to capability rather than political connections.
The Chief Minister urged the new recruits to serve with dedication, stressing that their roles go beyond personal benefit. “You must use your position to uplift underprivileged communities and ensure social welfare reaches every section,” he said.
Focus on Education and Merit
Mann strongly criticized past administrations for neglecting education, claiming government schools were reduced to “midday meal centres.” He contrasted this with his government’s efforts to upgrade schools into Schools of Eminence.
Punjab recently ranked first in the National Achievement Survey by the Government of India, surpassing Kerala. The CM pointed to student achievements as evidence of reform: 848 students cleared NEET, 265 passed JEE Mains, and 45 qualified for JEE Advanced.
He emphasized that real social change cannot come from freebies but through quality education, which raises living standards and reduces poverty.
Youth as Partners in Growth
Calling the recruitment drive a “turning point,” Mann said these jobs will not only transform the lives of individuals but also contribute to Punjab’s economic and social progress.
“The state government is committed to empowering youth through employment. Every recruitment has followed transparent, merit-based processes. This reflects our intention to make young people active partners in Punjab’s development,” he added.
Mann further said Punjab’s growth strategy focuses on education, healthcare, power, and employment, describing the last three years as a period of “unprecedented development.”
Criticism of Previous Regimes
The Chief Minister accused traditional political leaders of exploiting Punjab for personal gains while ignoring public needs. He said they sent their children to private schools outside Punjab, leaving local institutions underdeveloped.
“They plundered the state mercilessly. People voted them out because they only pursued vested interests,” Mann remarked. In contrast, he assured that his government relies on public feedback and works transparently to safeguard the state’s interests.
A New Era for Punjab
Mann described the ongoing wave of reforms as the beginning of a “new era” in Punjab’s governance. He reiterated that the government’s agenda is not just limited to jobs but covers holistic growth in every sector.
“Our sole mission is the prosperity of Punjab and its people. We are ensuring development with dedication, integrity, and transparency,” he concluded.
The ceremony was attended by Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Dr. Ravjot Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Tejveer Singh, and Education Secretary Anindita Mitra.
