On Friday, the Bihar’s government passed its first film promotion strategy, with the goal of providing full institutional support to filmmakers.

The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Following the meeting, S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), informed media that “the Cabinet has approved Bihar’s new film promotion policy.” Bihar has a lot of potential and opportunity for filmmakers.

The suggestion came from the state government’s Art, Culture, and Youth Affairs department.

According to Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, Additional Chief Secretary of the Art, Culture, and Youth Affairs Department, the new policy would provide aid to filmmakers who want to develop films that showcase Bihar’s rich cultural legacy.

She cited Bihar’s picturesque settings and excellent infrastructure as draws for filmmakers.

“The policy includes financial grants of up to Rs 4 crore for producing films, documentaries, and serials in regional languages and others,” according to her.

Furthermore, the strategy provides numerous financial incentives for regional films in languages such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, Angika, and Bajjika,” she noted.

She stated that the strategy provides for a single-window clearance for all government licenses, as well as necessary security and safety measures.

Bamhrah also recommended forming an empowered committee and establishing a film facilitation center to ease formalities for the fraternity.
