Bhagwant Mann Inaugurates Maharaja Ranjit Singh Library in Amritsar: A Boost for Youth and Culture
Amritsar, Punjab – In a major initiative to foster education, heritage awareness, and digital accessibility among the people of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday inaugurated the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Library at Shri Amritsar Sahib. The newly developed facility, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, is envisioned to serve youth preparing for competitive exams, as well as history enthusiasts and researchers.

CM Mann described the library as a “symbol of knowledge, empowerment, and cultural pride”, emphasizing the role of such institutions in building a future-ready Punjab. He further announced that similar libraries will be set up in every assembly constituency across the state to ensure educational equity and easy access to resources.
A Digital-Era Library with Deep Historical Roots
Named after the revered Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the library offers both digital and physical learning resources. According to an official post shared by CM Mann on X (formerly Twitter), the library is equipped with:
- High-speed internet access
- Computer workstations for digital research and test preparation
- Updated content on general knowledge, history, and current affairs
- Dedicated sections for UPSC, PSC, and SSC exam aspirants
- Rare documents and books on Sikh history and Punjab’s freedom struggle
“This library will be a hub of empowerment for all age groups, especially the youth,” Mann stated. “It not only provides preparation material for civil services and government exams but also educates people about the glorious legacy of Punjab.”

Panorama Museum: Visual Journey Through Punjab’s History
Alongside the library, CM Mann visited the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama, a unique visual archive that uses multimedia displays to narrate the life, battles, and governance of the legendary Sikh emperor. The Panorama is housed next to the library and complements it with interactive storytelling, 3D exhibits, and historical manuscripts.
The immersive exhibits aim to instill pride and awareness in the younger generation about the values of leadership, unity, and bravery symbolized by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
A Statewide Vision: Libraries in Every Constituency
This is not a one-off project. The Chief Minister announced plans to replicate this model across Punjab, ensuring that every assembly constituency will have a modern library with integrated facilities for digital access, test prep, and historical education.
These libraries will be:
- Digitally connected and open to all
- Staffed with trained librarians and mentors
- Equipped with language labs and job-oriented skill materials
- Integrated with Punjab government’s Young Entrepreneurs and Career Development schemes
CM Mann emphasized that “Knowledge must reach the last mile. These libraries are not just buildings—they are bridges between dreams and achievements.”
Cultural Revival Through Public Infrastructure
This initiative is part of a broader cultural revival mission undertaken by the Punjab government. In recent months, the state has also renovated historical gurudwaras, expanded Punjabi language curriculum in schools, and launched initiatives to digitize heritage manuscripts.
The library’s namesake, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, is a revered figure known for unifying Punjab and creating a secular, progressive empire. Associating his legacy with public education aims to blend history with the future, creating an aspirational and informed citizenry.
