Jaipur, June 14, 2025: Social media influencer Sachin Sen, popularly known as Lappu Sachin, was arrested on Thursday by Jaipur Police after a video of him and his group distributing alcohol to motorists during Nirjala Ekadashi went viral, prompting public outrage and backlash from several Hindu groups.
The incident, captured in a video that rapidly circulated across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, showed a group of young men handing out liquor bottles to random commuters from a Scorpio SUV on the streets of Jaipur — an act perceived as deeply disrespectful on a sacred Hindu fasting day.
Viral Video Sparks Outrage and Religious Backlash
Nirjala Ekadashi, one of the most significant fasting days in the Hindu calendar, is observed with strict abstinence from food and water. The timing of the act, seen by many as deliberately provocative, triggered widespread condemnation from religious groups, spiritual leaders, and citizens alike.
Several right-wing organizations and temple authorities filed complaints with the Jaipur Police, calling the act a deliberate attempt to insult Hindu beliefs.
“This is not just irresponsible but a direct affront to our religious sentiments,” said Rajendra Joshi, a priest at a Jaipur temple. “We demand strict action to prevent such behavior from being repeated.”
Police Action: Sachin Sen and 6 Others Arrested
According to Digant Anand, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jaipur South, the police tracked the Scorpio SUV used in the incident via its registration number. The investigation led to the arrest of Sachin Sen and six accomplices, identified as:

- Vikas Verma
- Abhishek Nirmal
- Sunil Kumar
- Aditya Mahariya
- Ankit
All seven were taken into custody after admitting to their involvement during interrogation.
“The accused confessed their goal was to gain online popularity, not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. However, they will still be held accountable under relevant legal provisions,” said DCP Anand.
Offenders Claim Social Media Publicity Was the Only Motive
During interrogation, the group reportedly stated that the stunt was designed to go viral on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, where such outrageous acts often attract widespread engagement and followers.
However, their lack of cultural sensitivity and disregard for religious context has drawn criticism even from within the digital creator community.
“There’s a fine line between content creation and offensive behavior. This crossed it,” said Priya Solanki, a Jaipur-based digital marketing professional.
Public Apology Issued, But Legal Action Continues
Following the backlash and arrest, all seven accused issued a public apology, expressing regret over their actions and insisting they had no intention to offend anyone’s faith.
Despite the apology, Jaipur Police confirmed that criminal charges have been filed under sections related to public mischief, hurting religious sentiments, and creating public disorder.
Legal experts suggest that even an act done without intent to offend can attract punishment if it results in social disharmony or religious unrest.
