Woman Constable Killed in Patna SUV Hit-and-Run During Vehicle Check
Patna, Bihar – June 12, 2025: A routine late-night vehicle-checking operation in Bihar’s capital turned tragic when a speeding SUV rammed into three police personnel, killing a woman constable and injuring two other officers. The incident occurred on Atal Path, a major roadway in Srikrishna Puri, during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The woman constable, who sustained critical injuries in the incident, succumbed to her injuries early Thursday morning, while the other two injured inspectors are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

According to a statement by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awakash Kumar, the accident took place while the officers were conducting a routine vehicle check post around midnight.
“Three police personnel from Srikrishna Puri police station were checking a car on Atal Path when another high-speed vehicle—a black Scorpio SUV—approached and crashed into them from behind,” SSP Kumar told PTI.
The impact was severe enough to hurl the officers to the ground. The Scorpio’s driver fled the scene immediately, abandoning the vehicle and leaving behind two passengers, who have since been taken into police custody.
Identity of Victim and Current Condition of Injured Officers
The deceased constable has been identified as Constable Poonam Kumari, who was on night patrol duty with two senior colleagues. Her sudden death has shocked the local police force, especially given the increasing number of such reckless driving incidents.
The injured officers, whose names have not yet been officially released, are recovering at a local government hospital under supervision. Doctors have confirmed that both are in stable condition and under observation.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
The Patna Police have launched a manhunt for the SUV driver, who is currently absconding. Preliminary investigation suggests rash and negligent driving, though a more detailed forensic examination of the vehicle and statements from the detained passengers will guide further legal action.
SSP Kumar confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed, and nearby checkpoints have been alerted to intercept the accused if found fleeing via nearby routes.
