Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the preparations for the Kavad Mela 2024 in the Mela Control Room Haridwar on Friday. He directed the officials to complete all the preparations before the start of the Kanwar Mela. He said that it should be ensured that there is no chaos during the Kanwar. Local people should not face unnecessary problems in commuting.

He said that the Kanwar Mela is organized every year, in view of this, priority should be given to works of permanent nature. Instructions were given to bring long-term development action plans into the work culture. The Chief Minister said that arrangements should be made for flower shower from heli to welcome the Shiva devotee Kawadis. Police and administration should be ready to deal with the challenges during the Kavad Yatra.

Along with the deployment of police forces on the entire route of the Kavad Yatra, construction work of temporary police posts should also be done at various places and arrangements for additional police force should be ensured. The Chief Minister also directed to keep regular surveillance with drones and CCTV cameras in highly crowded areas. Information about bypass and alternative routes should be given to Kanwariyas through sign boards.

He also instructed to work in coordination with neighboring states to ensure the safe completion of Kanwar Yatra. The Chief Minister instructed that before the Kanwar Yatra, beautification of the Kanwar track and other basic arrangements should be ensured. Adequate arrangements of toilets, bathing houses, clean drinking water, passenger shed, light, medical facilities should be ensured on the Kanwar Yatra route. Special attention should be paid to make the journey of Kanwariyas smooth and easy.

Quality checking campaign should be run regularly for the quality of food in hotels and dhabas located on the Yatra route and in Haridwar area, rate lists should be displayed in hotels and dhabas. Special attention should be paid to cleanliness during the Kanwar Yatra, cleaning work should be carried out 24 hours a day

It should be ensured that there is no encroachment of any kind in the fair area. The Chief Minister said that the local people should not face any problem in movement, traffic on the roads should not be affected, a better route plan should be made for traffic management. He directed to make adequate parking arrangements in Haridwar area. He also directed to make a common diversion plan by coordinating with other states. Apart from this, water ambulances should also be arranged during the Kavad Yatra.

The Chief Minister said that special verification drives should also be run in the Kavad Yatra. So that strict action can be taken against people coming by hiding their identity. Special magistrates should also be appointed for the supervision of various works. District Magistrate Shri Dhiraj Singh Garbyal said that the Kavad Mela period is from 22 July to 2 August.

This year 5.5 crore Kavadis are expected to come to Haridwar. A control room has been set up for the smooth conduct of the Kanwad Yatra, which will operate 24 hours. 14 super zones, 36 zones and 130 sectors have been created for the smooth conduct of the Yatra.

5 nodal officers have been nominated for the fair. The Kanwad track and major routes have been made smooth and convenient for the journey. The facilities of health camps, mobile medical team and ambulances are also being increased.

During the meeting, Shri Ganga Sabha, various organizations, public representatives thanked the Chief Minister for the successful Kavad Yatra last year and put forward their suggestions for Kavad Mela 2024 before the Chief Minister.

On which the Chief Minister urged to make the Yatra successful with the cooperation of the district administration and various organizations, NGOs and local people. Also, the District Magistrates of Dehradun, Rudraprayag and Pauri, who joined through virtual medium, informed the Chief Minister about the preparations made at the district level.
