A Nationwide Effort: Full List of 244 Civil Defence Drill Locations
India is conducting a nationwide civil defence mock drill today, May 7, 2025, under the code name Operation Abhyaas. This extensive exercise spans 244 districts across the country, aiming to bolster civilian preparedness amid escalating tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in 26 civilian casualties.
State administrations and Union Territories must activate air raid warning sirens, execute blackout procedures, and educate residents, particularly schools, on safety precautions during probable aircraft or ground strikes.
The simulated exercise would include volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), as well as school and college students, according to state government officials.

Major cities participating in the exercise include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. In Delhi, the drill is scheduled at 4:00 PM across 55 locations, involving the activation of 60 air raid sirens. Hyderabad’s drill will occur between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, focusing on areas within the Outer Ring Road.

Category I districts require full implementation of civil defence programs, whilst Category II and Category III require partial implementation in varying degrees.
