Delhi Police Busts Major Bangladeshi Human Trafficking Syndicate : 1,000 Illegal Immigrants Identified
In a significant operation, Delhi Police have uncovered a large-scale human trafficking network involving forged documents and illegal immigration routes. The crackdown led to the arrest of 11 individuals, including six Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian agents, and the identification of over 1,000 illegal immigrants across Delhi and Tamil Nadu.
The Racket Unveiled
The operation began with the arrest of Aslam alias Masoom from Taimoor Nagar, Delhi, in March 2025. Investigations revealed that Masoom had crossed into India via Meghalaya and possessed both Bangladeshi and forged Indian documents. Further interrogations led to the identification of the gang leader, Chand Miya, who had been trafficking individuals across the India-Bangladesh border for over a decade, charging Rs 20,000–25,000 per person.
Despite being illiterate, Miya operated a complex smuggling network, collaborating with five Indian agents who ran cyber cafes. These agents facilitated the creation of fake Aadhaar cards and assisted migrants in settling in cities like Delhi and Chennai.
Operation Expands to Tamil Nadu
The investigation extended beyond Delhi, leading to the arrest of 33 more Bangladeshi nationals in Tamil Nadu. Raids uncovered 11 fake Aadhaar cards, forged certificates, Bangladeshi IDs, scanners, computer hardware, and Rs 20,000 in cash. The operation highlighted the extensive reach of the trafficking network and its operations across state borders.
Methods of Operation
The syndicate employed various methods to facilitate illegal immigration. Immigrants used jungle routes and express trains to cross into Indian territory, aided by forged documents generated via fake websites. These documents included fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other forged papers, which enabled the immigrants to access jobs and government services.
The Indian agents played a crucial role in this operation, assisting in the creation of fake documents and helping migrants settle in urban areas. Their involvement underscores the complexity and scale of the trafficking network.
Police Response and Future Actions
Delhi Police have intensified their efforts to identify and detain individuals residing without valid documentation. The department is collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle the network and prevent future illegal immigration activities.
This operation is part of a broader crackdown on human trafficking in Delhi. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi saw a 73.5% increase in human trafficking cases last year, with many victims being pushed into forced labor and sexual exploitation. The Delhi Police have established a dedicated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) to combat this issue, focusing on both prevention and investigation of trafficking cases.
