A stabbing and liquid spray attack at a tire factory in Mishima, Japan, injured 15 workers. Authorities have arrested a 38-year-old suspect.

According to local media, a stabbing attack in a central Japanese factory also resulted in the spraying of an unidentified liquid, injuring fifteen persons. At a tire factory in central Japan on Friday, eight workers were stabbed and seven others were hurt with bleach.

In Mishima, west of Tokyo, a guy brandished a knife and stabbed several individuals, according to Kyodo News Agency.

A 38-year-old guy was reportedly taken into custody for allegedly attempting to kill someone at the workplace. According to the Japanese daily Asahi, the suspect was wearing a gas mask and carrying a survival knife.

A firefighting department official in the city of Mishima, Shizuoka region, Tomoharu Sugiyama, told AFP, “Fourteen people are subject to transportation by emergency services.”

At 4:30 p.m., Sugiyama claimed to have gotten a call from a rubber factory stating that “five or six people were stabbed by someone” and that a “spray-like liquid” had also been used.

Yokohama Rubber Co., a company that produces tires for buses and vehicles, is in charge of the factory.

With a low murder rate and some of the strictest firearms prohibitions in the world, violent crime is comparatively uncommon in Japan.

Nonetheless, there are sporadic gunshots and stabbings, including as the 2022 assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe.

For a shooting and stabbing spree that claimed the lives of four people in 2023, including two police officers, a Japanese man was given a death sentence in October.

A knife attack at Tokyo’s Toda-mae metro station in May also resulted in the charging of a 43-year-old man with attempted murder.
