Woman With Extramarital Affair Kills Husband in Bihar, Son Witnesses Murder
Bihar Woman Arrested for Killing Husband in Purnia; Son Witnessed Brutal Murder
Purnia, Bihar – July 14: In a horrifying incident from Bihar’s Purnia district, a 35-year-old woman was arrested for brutally murdering her husband following a reported extramarital affair. The shocking crime unfolded late Saturday night in Damgarha village, under Dhamdaha police station limits, where the woman, Usha Devi, allegedly attacked her husband’s face and neck repeatedly until he died.
The victim has been identified as Balo Das, 42, who had recently returned from Punjab, where he worked as a laborer. Police officials stated that the couple’s 14-year-old son, Shailendra, witnessed the murder and escaped to his aunt’s house to report the crime.
Gruesome Details: She Sat Beside the Corpse Talking to Herself
According to law enforcement officials, Usha Devi, after committing the murder, did not flee the scene. Instead, she remained beside the dead body all night, reportedly talking to herself and appearing emotionally unstable.
“It was a gruesome sight. She sat near the body the entire night. Her mental state seemed disturbed when we arrived,” said Dhamdaha SHO Saroj Kumar.
The couple had been married for 22 years and had three children: Shailendra (14), Vikram (12), and Kiran (10). The eldest son, Shailendra, managed to flee the house and alerted a maternal relative, who then contacted the police.
Murder Weapon Recovered, Confession Made
Police recovered the murder weapon, which is believed to have been a sharp-edged domestic tool, from the crime scene. Usha Devi was taken into custody on Sunday and confessed to the murder during initial interrogation.
The motive is believed to be personal and rooted in a suspected extramarital affair, as reported by local sources and confirmed by police.
“She admitted to the crime during questioning. We are investigating whether premeditation was involved,” SHO Saroj Kumar added.
The Victim: A Laborer Supporting Family from Afar
Balo Das, the victim, worked in Punjab as a laborer and returned home recently to be with his family. Neighbors described him as a quiet and hardworking man, often away from home to support his children’s education and household needs.
“He loved his family and was devoted to his kids. It’s shocking to think something like this could happen,” said a local villager.
Psychological Evaluation and Legal Proceedings
Given Usha Devi’s behavior after the murder—sitting beside the body and talking to herself—police are considering a psychological evaluation to assess her mental condition.
The authorities have taken her into judicial custody and are preparing to present her before the magistrate. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 302 (murder).
Children in Trauma, Social Services Alerted
The three children, especially Shailendra who witnessed the murder, are currently under the care of relatives. Local social services and child welfare departments have been notified to provide counseling and trauma support to the minors.
Experts suggest the children may face long-term emotional and psychological challenges following this traumatic experience. Community leaders are also urging government intervention for rehabilitation and educational support for the kids.
