VB arrests lady for taking Rs 20,000 bribe to settle matrimonial dispute in police station

Chandigarh February 16 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested a private woman Manmeet Kaur, a resident of village Bholapur, Bamial, district Pathankot for accepting bribe money of Rs 20,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister Anti Corruption Action Line by Baljit Kaur, a resident of village Sibal Sakol, Narot Jaimal Singh, district  Pathankot.

He further added that the  complainant alleged in her complaint that the said Manmeet Kaur has took Rs 20,000 as a bribe and was further demanding 20-25 thousand rupees on behalf of Sub-Inspector Ajwinder Singh, SHO, police station Narot Jaimal Singh, in lieu of settling her matrimonial dispute with her husband. She recorded the conversation with her while she was demanding the money.

He informed that the VB range Amritsar conducted an enquiry regarding this complaint and found the allegations as correct and true. In this regard a FIR under Section 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against accused Manmeet Kaur and was arrested. Further investigation into this case was under progress and role of concerned police personnel would also be looked into, he said.
