Addressing a large gathering of farmers, scientists, and experts, CM Dhami praised the conference’s timely focus on agricultural progress in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture, empowering farmers, and supporting sustainable farming practices across the state.

A Vision for Modernizing Agriculture in Uttarakhand

During the inauguration, CM Dhami spoke proudly of Uttarakhand’s rich agricultural legacy and the government’s continuous efforts to modernize the sector. He emphasized the importance of platforms like the Krishi Vigyan Sammelan in connecting farmers with the latest agricultural research, technologies, and innovations.

“The Krishi Vigyan Sammelan is an important event where farmers not only gain insight into the latest farming techniques but also explore new avenues like horticulture, animal husbandry, and organic farming. This conference serves as a vital space for learning and sharing knowledge that can uplift the lives of farmers,” said CM Dhami.

The Chief Minister also lauded the contributions of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology for hosting the event, noting that such platforms provide invaluable opportunities for farmers to interact with subject matter experts and adopt cutting-edge agricultural methods.

Key Initiatives for Farmer Welfare in Uttarakhand

During his speech, CM Dhami outlined several government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of farmers in the state. He highlighted the interest-free loans up to ₹3 lakh being provided to farmers and an 80% subsidy on agricultural equipment purchases under the Farm Machinery Bank Scheme.

Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned the Apple Mission, which focuses on the establishment of apple orchards in Uttarakhand, and the initiative to convert key tea gardens in the state—such as Dhola Devi, Munsiyari, and Betalghat—into organic tea gardens.

“These initiatives are designed to not only support our farmers but also enhance the overall productivity and quality of farming in Uttarakhand,” CM Dhami explained. He also expressed optimism about the state’s future, with the rapid growth of aromatic farming, including the development of six aroma valleys for diverse crops.

Fostering Innovation and Training for Farmers

A key aspect of the Krishi Vigyan Sammelan was the emphasis on innovation in farming practices. Farmers were encouraged to explore new trends in digital agriculture, climate-smart farming, and smart livestock management. CM Dhami invited attendees to actively participate in panel discussions and seminars covering topics like agriculture innovation in hilly areas and the role of technology in the future of farming.

The state has made significant strides to equip farmers with essential training and resources. In the state budget for 2025, ₹463 crore has been allocated for the upliftment of farmers and cattle rearers. This funding will go toward fostering innovation, enhancing crop production, and improving animal husbandry practices across the state.

A Global Perspective on Agriculture

The Krishi Vigyan Sammelan also saw an international presence, with scientists from 16 countries participating in the conference. The event brought together progressive farmers, agriculture experts, and researchers, making it a Krishi Maha Kumbh for the agricultural community.

Dr. MS Chauhan, Vice Chancellor of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, welcomed the attendees, stating, “The support and inspiration from Chief Minister Dhami have made this grand conference possible. The exchange of knowledge and expertise will greatly benefit the agricultural sector in Uttarakhand.”

Key Panels and Workshops for Farmers

Throughout the event, several specialized stalls and workshops were set up to provide hands-on demonstrations of agricultural tools, best practices, and information on various farming techniques. Farmers were encouraged to visit these stalls, where they could interact directly with experts and gain valuable insights into improving their agricultural practices.

Notable sessions during the conference included seminars on the use of organic farming techniques, the latest advancements in horticulture, and the benefits of sustainable farming practices. These topics are critical for the growth of agriculture in the challenging hilly terrain of Uttarakhand.

The Road Ahead for Uttarakhand’s Farmers

Looking ahead, CM Dhami expressed his confidence that the Krishi Vigyan Sammelan would help in shaping a new vision for agriculture and animal husbandry in Uttarakhand. With a focus on modernization, sustainable practices, and global knowledge-sharing, the state is poised to continue its journey toward agricultural excellence.

“The state government is committed to strengthening the agricultural ecosystem and providing all possible support to our farmers. We aim to ensure that Uttarakhand’s farmers are not only well-equipped with the latest farming techniques but are also recognized globally for their contributions to sustainable agriculture,” concluded CM Dhami.
