PM Modi called for solidarity among MPs the day before his government’s maiden Budget in its third term, urging them to set aside partisan disagreements for the common good.
PM Modi’s message was clear: constructive discourse must replace the “negative politics” that have dominated recent legislative sessions.
Talking to the media on the first day of the Budget session, Modi emphasized that certain parties’ disruptive actions had deprived many MPs the opportunity to express their constituents’ concerns. He urged all parties to engage in meaningful debates, highlighting the significance of this session for India’s future.
In a sharp assessment of the opposition’s previous protests, Modi blasted attempts to silence the government, saying such activities have no place in a democracy. “You may have noticed that during the first session of Parliament, an attempt was made to silence the voice of the government, which was elected by a majority of the country’s 140 crore people.
For 2.5 hours, an attempt was made to silence the Prime Minister. They tried to prevent me from speaking in Parliament during the last session. The people of the country sent us for the country, not the party. This Parliament serves the country, not the party.”
The Prime Minister informed the country that the world is watching and anticipates a productive and inventive session that will pave the path for India’s ambitions. “This is an important milestone in the glorious journey of Indian democracy,” he told reporters.
Gazing forward to the Budget presentation, Modi described it as a key step toward fulfilling his administration’s pledges. “This is a significant budget for Amrit Kaal. It will establish our five-year strategy and create the groundwork for our Viksit Bharat 2047 vision,” he said.
He was proud of India’s place as the fastest-growing major economy, with an 8% growth rate over the previous three years and a promising prognosis for investment and performance.
In an emotional appeal, Modi urged MPs from all parties to put aside their differences and work together for the country’s well. “We fought with everything we had beginning in January. We told everyone what we had to say. Some tried to illustrate the way, while others attempted to mislead. However, that time is now ended. The country has issued its mandate. It is now the responsibility of all MPs to cease fighting for their party and fight for the country for the next five years,” he stated.
Reflecting on the past, Modi expressed sadness that certain MPs had been unable to make substantial contributions due to the disruptive methods of others. “Differences in opinion are not a problem; negativity is.” The country does not need negativity; it requires a progressive ideology. I hope we can use this temple of democracy constructively to fulfill people’s dreams,” he remarked.
