UP Govt Directs Early Salary Payment Ahead of Holi

by Tamanna

As Holi 2026 approaches, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a festive step to ease financial concerns for its employees. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that February salaries be released before Holi, ensuring teachers, government staff, and sanitation workers receive timely payments ahead of the festival of colors.

The move has been widely welcomed, particularly as festival expenses often create additional financial pressure. Departments across the state have swung into action to implement the directive without delay.

February Salaries Credited on February 28, 2026

Under the instructions, February salaries will be credited on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The day has been declared a working day to ensure smooth processing, with strict instructions that no category of employee is left out.

According to official sources, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that all regular, outsourced, contractual, and sanitation staff must receive their salaries before Holi. Any negligence will not be tolerated. March 3, 2026, will be a holiday for employees, while Holi holidays will be observed from March 2 to 4.

Education Department Issues Guidelines

The Office of the Director of School Education and State Project Director formally communicated the decision to release salaries ahead of March 2. The order, signed by Monica Rani, Director General of School Education, Uttar Pradesh, highlighted that Holika Dahan falls on March 2 and Holi on March 4, prompting officials to complete all formalities in advance.

Officials across all directorates and the Finance Department were instructed to ensure that salaries reach employees before Holika Dahan.

Finance Department Approves Early Payment

The Finance Department clarified that routine scheduling would have delayed salary disbursement due to Sunday (March 1) being a holiday and Holika Dahan on March 2. The early release plan received approval from Governor Anandiben Patel, ensuring funds reach employees by February 28, 2026.

Government staff have praised the move as a thoughtful gesture, enabling them to celebrate Holi 2026 without financial worries.
