On the second day of the Uttar Pradesh legislature’s budget session, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to the recently deceased MLAs. He informed the House that Professor Shyam Bihari Lal, aged 60, passed away on January 2, 2026. A two-time BJP MLA from Faridpur (Bareilly), Professor Lal was known for his dedication to education and public service, serving on committees such as the History Collection Committee, Bareilly, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The Chief Minister highlighted Professor Lal’s consistent efforts toward constituency development and the welfare of backward and underprivileged communities, emphasizing the value of scholars contributing to public service. “His demise is an irreplaceable loss for the state and the BJP,” he said.

CM Yogi also condoled the death of Vijay Singh Gaur, a senior Samajwadi Party MLA, who passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 71. Elected eight times, Gaur began his political journey in 1980 and was a prominent advocate for tribal rights. The Chief Minister noted that Gaur consistently prioritized education, health, infrastructure, employment, and the rights of water, forest, and land for his constituents.
