Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a landmark allocation of Rs 261.91 crore for the expansion, technological upgradation and modernisation of the Morna sugar mill. This decision goes beyond a routine infrastructure project and directly addresses the long-pending concerns of thousands of sugarcane farmers in Morna, Mirapur and surrounding areas.
For years, farmers in the region had been facing difficulties due to delayed crushing, inadequate processing capacity and recurring technical issues at the mill. These problems had been repeatedly raised through appeals and sustained efforts by farmer groups, and the approval is being seen as the outcome of those persistent demands.
The Economic Survey 2025-26 has put a spotlight on the leadership of Uttar Pradesh in Agriculture. UP is the leading producer of Rice, Wheat and Sugarcane (220.80 MT – 2024-25).
