Lucknow Police Uncover Illegal Stay of Omani Nationals at Gomtinagar Hotel
In a significant security operation on Thursday night, the Lucknow police, in collaboration with the Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB), uncovered a case of illegal foreign nationals’ stay at a hotel in Gomtinagar’s Virat Khand area. The raid revealed that five Omani nationals had been residing at the hotel without proper documentation or mandatory reporting to authorities, raising serious concerns about security protocols and compliance with the Foreigners Act.
The Discovery: A Surprise Inspection
The operation was initiated following a tip-off received by the authorities. Sub-inspectors Kanchan Tiwari, Anand Kumar, and Deepak Kumar Yadav conducted a surprise inspection at the hotel, which led to the startling findings. At the time of the raid, the Omani nationals were not present on the premises. However, their stay records indicated irregularities, including inconsistent check-in and check-out dates and a pattern of leaving early in the morning and returning late at night.
Details of the Foreign Nationals
The five Omani nationals identified during the inspection were:
- Saleh Ali Masood Nasir Al-Rushaidi – Stayed since April 2.
- Mahmood Saleh Adeem Al-Ashi – Stayed from April 19 to April 22.
- Khamis Saleem Kharmas Al-Ghanboosi—Stayed from April 14 to April 15 and again from April 17 onwards.
- Saleem Khamis Saleem Al-Ghanboosi—checked in on April 17.
- Alnoud Ahmed Suleiman Al-Rahbi – Had a photocopy of his passport submitted; stay details were unclear.
The hotel provided photocopies of their passports but failed to offer valid explanations for the irregularities, prompting further suspicion.
Violation of Mandatory Reporting Norms
Preliminary investigations revealed that the hotel management had not notified the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), or even the local police about the foreign nationals’ stay, as mandated by the Foreigners Act. This omission is considered a serious violation of national security protocols.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone), Pankaj Kumar Singh, confirmed, “An FIR has been lodged against Gaurav Kashyap and Adil at the Gomtinagar police station. Investigation is underway to ascertain the activities of the foreign nationals during their stay.”
Seizure of Travel Documents and Ongoing Investigation
The passports of the foreign nationals have been seized for verification. A comprehensive intelligence probe has been initiated to ascertain the purpose of their stay and any potential security implications. Authorities are also examining the hotel’s financial records to determine if there was any monetary gain involved in harboring the foreign nationals without proper documentation.
