The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), acting under the zero-tolerance policy against corruption adopted by the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has arrested a village sarpanch for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹50,000.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, Sarpanch Gurcharan Singh of village Devinagar (Abhravan) in SAS Nagar district was apprehended following a complaint filed on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line portal.
Punjab Vigilance Bureau Uncovers Bribe Attempt for Impounded Tractor Release
During verification of the complaint, it was revealed that the accused had allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from the complainant in exchange for facilitating the release of his impounded tractor from Police Station Bannur. After negotiations, the amount was reportedly settled at ₹50,000. The complainant, a resident of the same village, had recorded the entire conversation as evidence.

Based on the findings, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, SAS Nagar Range. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, the spokesperson added.
