Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central Government, claiming that Taiwan’s market capitalisation has now overtaken India’s.
Harpal Singh Cheema stated that Taiwan, with a population of only 25 million, has moved ahead of India, which has a population of over 1.3 billion people. He said this reflects the weakening condition of the Indian economy and raises serious questions about the Centre’s economic policies.

Speaking on the country’s financial condition, Harpal Singh Cheema said India, which was once regarded as the world’s fourth-largest economy in terms of GDP, has now slipped to the sixth position.
Taiwan’s market capitalisation has now crossed that of India. A country of barely 2.5 crore people has overtaken a nation of 130 crore people. India, once the world’s 4th largest economy by GDP size, has now slipped to 6th position.

He alleged that instead of answering difficult questions related to economic slowdown, rising debt, inflation, and declining investor confidence, the BJP government is focused on hiding facts and misleading the public.
Rising Inflation and Investor Concerns Affecting Common Citizens
Harpal Singh Cheema claimed that poor economic management is directly impacting ordinary citizens across the country. According to him, rising inflation and financial uncertainty have increased pressure on middle-class and lower-income families.

Targeting the Central Government, Harpal Singh Cheema urged the BJP leadership to maintain transparency regarding the country’s economic condition and focus on concrete measures to strengthen the economy.
He said that instead of political distractions, the government should prioritise employment generation, economic reforms, and restoring investor confidence to protect the future of the country’s economy.
