Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Mamdot SHO Abhinav Chauhan Red-Handed Taking ₹25,000 Bribe
Chandigarh, April 12 – In a significant development under the Punjab government’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Inspector Abhinav Chauhan, Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Mamdot, district Ferozepur, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹25,000.
The arrest took place on Saturday following a well-planned trap laid by the VB’s Flying Squad-1 team, acting on a complaint filed by a local resident, Surinder Singh.
Bribe Demand of ₹1 Lakh for Civil Dispute Settlement
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the complainant approached the VB with the allegation that Inspector Chauhan demanded ₹1 lakh to facilitate the settlement of a civil dispute.
After receiving the complaint, the Bureau carried out a preliminary inquiry, which found the allegations credible. A formal trap was set, and Chauhan was caught in the act while accepting the first installment of ₹25,000, with two government witnesses present to ensure transparency in the operation.
“The arrest is part of our zero-tolerance approach towards corruption in public service,” the VB spokesperson said.
FIR Registered and Legal Proceedings Underway
Following the arrest, a case has been registered at the VB Flying Squad-1 police station in Mohali. Inspector Abhinav Chauhan will be produced in the competent court on Sunday, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of his involvement and whether others were complicit.
This is one of several recent operations by the Vigilance Bureau aimed at rooting out corruption in public offices, particularly within law enforcement agencies, where misuse of power severely affects public trust.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has ramped up efforts in recent months under the directive of the Bhagwant Mann-led state government, which has committed to ensuring clean and transparent governance.
