Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests Land Records employee Parvesh red-handed while accepting Rs. 4,000 bribe; case filed under Prevention of Corruption Act.
As part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) caught contractual employee Parvesh working in the director’s office of the Land Records Department in Punjab red-handed after he accepted a bribe of Rs. 4,000 in exchange for giving the complainant access to land records.
The aforementioned culprit has been arrested in response to a complaint filed by a resident of the hamlet of Chhokra tehsil Dasuya, district SBS Nagar, according to a state VB official spokeswoman who made the announcement .
According to him, the complainant claimed that his wife had pursued her rightful claim to 12 acres of family land in a civil suit filed in the Dasuya court. Certified copies of the land assignment, deposit, and Jamabandi records were necessary in this respect to prove land ownership.
He added that the complainant had applied to the Director’s office. Jalandhar is home to Land Records, Punjab, where one can obtain land records. The required records were not provided, even after several visits. While meeting with the complainant, accused Parvesh promised to set up the necessary documents and translate them from Urdu to Punjabi. He allegedly asked Rs. 12,000 for translation work and Rs. 10,000 for the records, for a total of Rs. 22,000.
The complainant said that under duress, accused Parvesh had already received Rs. 18,000/- via cash and Google Pay on various occasions. Parvesh then made an additional demand of Rs. 4,000/-, he continued.
The VB team set up a trap after conducting a preliminary investigation into his accusation, the spokesperson continued, and the culprit was apprehended in the presence of two official witnesses while collecting a payment of Rs 4,000 from the complainant.
In this context, the accused has been the subject of a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Jalandhar, and additional investigation is currently underway.
