Punjab Transport Department to Clear All Pending Citizen Services by April 25, 2025

Chandigarh, April 16, 2025 — In a significant move to enhance citizen experience and streamline service delivery, Punjab’s Finance Minister, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, announced that the Transport Department will clear all pending citizen-centric services beyond stipulated timelines by April 25, 2025. This initiative aligns with the Punjab government’s commitment to timely and hassle-free delivery of services to its residents.

Addressing Service Delays

During a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Minister Cheema emphasized that Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has directed concerned officers to address pending services, including Vahan and Sarathi services, by the specified deadline. Cheema assured that after April 25, all services would be delivered within the stipulated timelines.

Enhancing Service Delivery Through Technology

To further improve service accessibility, the Transport Department is expanding its digital infrastructure. Minister Cheema announced that 20 services are now being provided through doorstep delivery via the call center number 1076 and Sewa Kendras, allowing citizens to access services without visiting RTO offices. Additionally, all citizen-centric services will soon be available through E-Sewa Kendras (1076), eliminating the need for physical visits to RTO offices. A WhatsApp Chatbot will also be introduced to facilitate faceless services, enhancing convenience and efficiency for citizens.

Ensuring Accountability

Minister Cheema underscored the importance of accountability in ensuring the smooth delivery of services. He stated that senior officers of the Transport Department, including the State Transport Commissioner, would regularly monitor service delivery to prevent undue delays. “In case of any undue delay, the responsible government officers or employees will face strict action,” Cheema asserted.

A Vision for Citizen-Centric Governance

These initiatives are part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to leverage technology and innovative solutions to improve governance and enhance the quality of life for its citizens. By prioritizing the timely delivery of services, the government aims to set a benchmark for citizen-centric governance.
