Punjab has announced a 3% reservation quota for sportspersons in government jobs and educational institutions, a move aimed at encouraging athletic talent and providing opportunities for players across the state. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, MLA, during a press conference highlighting the details of the policy.
Eligibility Criteria for Sportspersons
Under the Punjab sports quota 2026, the eligibility of players will depend on their grading:
- Grade A players will be considered eligible for all four categories – A, B, C, and D.
- Grade B players will also be eligible across categories A, B, C, and D.
- Grade C players will be considered eligible for categories C and D.
- Grade D players will be eligible for category D only.
The grading system ensures that sportspersons are fairly assessed based on their achievements and contributions to sports, making the Punjab sports quota 2026 transparent and merit-based.
