Baljit Kaur : Punjab Govt Disburses ₹5,748 Crore Under Social Security Schemes in 2025–26

Major funds released for old age pensions, widows, children and persons with disabilities across Punjab.

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continues to prioritise the welfare of marginalised and economically weaker sections of society with dedication and compassion, said Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.

Providing details, the minister stated that during the financial year 2025–26, the government has released more than ₹5,748 crore up to January 2026 under various social security schemes. The funds have been directly transferred to eligible beneficiaries across the state to ensure timely financial assistance.

Dr. Baljit Kaur Says 35.70 Lakh Beneficiaries Receiving Regular Support Under Social Security Schemes

Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that over 35.70 lakh beneficiaries are receiving consistent financial support through these schemes, helping strengthen the economic stability of senior citizens, widows, children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Baljit Kaur further elaborated that ₹3,806.43 crore has been distributed under the Old Age Pension Scheme, ₹1,099.97 crore has been allocated to widows and destitute women, ₹385.94 crore has been provided for orphaned and dependent children, and ₹456.03 crore has been disbursed as financial aid to persons with disabilities.

Emphasising the broader impact of these initiatives, the minister said social security programmes go beyond financial aid, offering dignity, hope and stability to lakhs of families. She noted that when elderly citizens receive pensions, widows achieve financial independence, and persons with disabilities gain support for self-reliance, it reflects effective governance in action.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the state aims to ensure that no deserving individual is left behind and that assistance reaches every eligible household with transparency and sensitivity. In line with the Chief Minister’s vision, the Punjab Government has earmarked ₹6,175 crore for social security schemes in the 2025–26 financial year to further strengthen financial empowerment and social protection across the state.
