Punjab Police Prevents Grenade Attack on Police Establishments; Five Arrested in BKI Terror Module Bust
In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Punjab Police have successfully thwarted a potential grenade attack on police establishments in Amritsar. The operation led to the arrest of five individuals linked to a Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module, allegedly orchestrated by the foreign-based gangster Jiwan Fauji.
Key Arrests and Seizures
The arrested individuals have been identified as Naresh Kumar alias Babbu, Abhinav Bhagat alias Abhi, Ajay Kumar alias Ajju, Sunny Kumar, and a 17-year-old juvenile, all residents of Haripura, Amritsar. During the operation, police recovered one hand grenade, a country-made .32 pistol, and five live cartridges. The arrests were made following intelligence inputs and surveillance operations by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police.
Jiwan Fauji’s Cross-Border Terror Network
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Jiwan Fauji, currently operating from abroad, has been running a terror module in the border districts of Punjab. The arrested individuals were recruited and radicalized to execute criminal activities, including retrieving weapon consignments from the Ajnala sector. They were also tasked with targeting police establishments using grenades.
Attempted Escape and Retaliatory Action
In a subsequent operation, accused Ajay Kumar attempted to flee by snatching a service weapon and opening fire at the police team. The police responded with retaliatory fire, injuring Ajay Kumar in his leg. He is currently undergoing medical treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.
Further Investigations and Linkages
Commissioner of Police Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, stated that the arrested individuals had also provided logistical support and an Activa scooter to assailants who had recently fired at a Karyana Store owner in Mahal village, Amritsar. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the terror network and establish the full extent of the module’s operations.
Legal Proceedings
A case (FIR No. 103 dated 30/04/2025) has been registered under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar. The police are continuing their efforts to dismantle the terror module and prevent future attacks on police establishments.
