Chandigarh : Punjab Police, as part of the ongoing “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign to make Punjab a gangster-free state under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, carried out 2,760 raids on Monday across locations linked to wanted criminals on the first day of Operation Prahaar-2.
The 72-hour operation, launched by DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, focuses on apprehending wanted criminals. Senior officers from the Punjab Police Headquarters are personally overseeing operations in different districts to ensure effective enforcement.
According to Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, over 2,000 Police teams comprising around 12,000 personnel conducted raids statewide. On Day 1 of Operation Prahaar-2, 1,895 individuals were rounded up, including 1,250 arrests, among them 40 proclaimed offenders and 298 preventive detentions. Another 666 people were verified and released after questioning.

Punjab Police Continues Anti-Drug Drive
Punjab Police also continued its Yudh Nashian Virudh anti-drug campaign on its 345th day, arresting 72 drug smugglers and seizing 26.4 kg heroin, 772 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 12.17 lakh in drug money. Since the campaign began, a total of 48,331 drug smugglers have been apprehended.
In addition to enforcement, Punjab Police facilitated 21 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, reinforcing efforts to combat substance abuse alongside crime.
