Punjab strengthened welfare for martyrs’ families, disabled soldiers and ex-servicemen with jobs, ex-gratia aid and pension support in 2025.

The Defence Services Welfare Department of Punjab remained steadfastly dedicated to the welfare of widows, disabled troops, ex-servicemen, and the relatives of fallen soldiers throughout 2025. A number of important actions were taken to improve welfare programs for the defense community under the administration of Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat and under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Mohinder Bhagat provided additional information, stating that the Punjab government has been treating the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country’s defense with the highest respect and sensitivity.Under the Honour and Gratitude Policy, he said, the next of kin of ten troops who were martyred were given government employment in various ministries of the Punjab government in 2025.

The Minister added that in honor of the troops’ supreme sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the country, the families of 65 servicemen killed during Operation Vijay were honored on Kargil Day.According to Bhagat, during the year, the State Government gave ₹3.66 crore as an ex-gratia gift to the families of soldiers who were killed and injured.

He continued by saying that a budget allocation of ₹63.22 crore has been made under various initiatives for the benefit of families of fallen soldiers, gallantry awards, and ex-servicemen during the current fiscal year.According to the Minister, pensions for widows and former service members are paid out transparently via the SPARSH portal. All District Defence Services Welfare Offices in Punjab held 15-day help camps to address pension-related concerns.

Furthermore, Bhagat said that ten disabled troops received electric three-wheel scooters from the State Government to enhance their mobility and quality of life. The Minister reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment, stating that the Punjab Government is still totally committed to the welfare of the families of martyrs and former service members and that more welfare-focused programs will be implemented in the near future.
