Punjab launches Phase II of “Sade Bazurag, Sada Maan” to provide elderly citizens with healthcare, pensions, and social security at their doorstep.
Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister of Punjab Dr. Baljit Kaur reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing elderly persons with dignity, care, and social security on Tuesday by launching Phase II of the flagship campaign “Sade Bazurag, Sada Maan” at Kalkat Bhawan (Kisan Vikas Chamber) in Mohali. The initiative will be carried out district-by-district to offer social security, welfare, and health services to senior citizens right at their door.
According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Punjab government is putting older folks’ welfare first under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. A sum of ₹786 lakh has been set aside for Phase II of the campaign in order to set up camps at the district level throughout the state. The goal of these camps is to guarantee that senior persons receive necessary services in a timely and convenient way. She said that from February 2 to February 18, Phase II will encompass all of Punjab’s remaining districts.

The Minister highlighted the success of the first phase, which began in 2023, pointing out that 20,210 older citizens were registered during Phase I, indicating a high level of public involvement and confidence in government social programs. The second phase, she continued, has been planned to enhance coverage and outreach even more.

Numerous treatments will be provided by the camps, such as eye exams and cataract screening, consultations for ENT and orthopaedic specialists, dementia and non-communicable disease screening, and ayurveda and homeopathic medicine. Senior Citizen cards, ALIMCO cards, and social security pension enrollment will all be made easier on the spot. A key component of the program will be education and support regarding the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, and other legal rights.
Essential assistive devices, including hearing aids, walking aids, cervical collars, belts, wheelchairs, and near-vision glasses, will be provided immediately to qualified recipients, according to Dr. Baljit Kaur. She added that senior folks in Punjab can get assistance by calling the toll-free helpline 14567.
The Minister shared financial information, stating that around 23.33 lakh people in Punjab are currently receiving old age pensions, with ₹4,100 crore allocated to pension schemes in the fiscal year 2025–2026. Beneficiaries received ALIMCO kits and old age pension sanction letters during the state-level camp in Mohali, and NGOs and Senior Citizen Associations received recognition for their contributions.
