Punjab Increases Promotion Quota for Principals to 75%, Promoting 500 Teachers
In a landmark decision aimed at strengthening the educational framework in Punjab, the state government has increased the promotion quota for school principals from 50% to 75%. In districts like Mansa and Barnala, over 70% of schools lack a permanent principal, highlighting the urgency of this reform.
The previous reduction of the promotion quota from 75% to 50% in 2018 by the then Congress-led government exacerbated this issue, leading to administrative challenges and stagnation within the teaching cadre. By restoring the promotion quota to 75%, the current administration aims to streamline leadership appointments and ensure that experienced educators assume pivotal roles in shaping the future of students.
